Matcha Protein Shake Recipe

What I love about this matcha protein shake recipe is how simple it is…

All you will need to make 1 serving of my vanilla matcha protein shake is the following ingredients:

  • 1-3 tablespoons of Matcha Powder (Depends on what amount tastes great for you)
  • 1 Scoop of Vanilla Protein Powder
  • 1 Cup of Milk (you can use 1 cup of any milk you prefer)
  • 1 tsp of Honey (Optional)

And that’s it!

Now, let’s talk about ingredients. I’ll share with you what I prefer, but you can use whatever you have on hand.

Matcha And Protein Powder

Ingredients

Ingredients can make or break this recipe. You want to make sure you are using quality ingredients as well as ingredients that taste great together.

Matcha Green Tea Powder Spoon

Matcha Green Tea

Depending on what matcha green tea powder you use will drastically change the taste of this recipe. Matcha powder tends to be bitter. But there is matcha powder you can buy that is pre-sweetened.

So, you want to be careful when you are choosing the right matcha powder for you. I personally like the bitter and bold taste of traditional matcha powder.

You can make your matcha protein shake with your favorite green tea powder.

But if you don’t have one. This is the Japanese green tea powder I like and recommend using.

Jade Leaf Matcha Powder

Vanilla Protein Powder

What I love about vanilla protein powder is its versatility when it comes to making different types of shakes. Vanilla protein powder is also one of the few protein powder flavors that really let the flavor of your matcha protein shake come through.

You can go with whatever protein powder you like if you already have a favorite.

If not, this is my favorite protein powder to use with my matcha protein shake recipe.

Black Magic Protein Powder

Milk

Last but definitely not least is milk. I like to use whole dairy milk. It has a very neutral flavor that doesn’t overpower the matcha in the protein shake.

You can use any other kinds of milk, like unsweetened almond milk, soy milk, oat milk, etc. But keep in mind that different kinds of milk have different flavors and can change the taste of your matcha protein shake.

But if you are lactose intolerant or watching for the amount of saturated fat and calories you are consuming. Then, it might be a better idea to use milk that fits your goals and dietary restrictions.

2 Ways To Make Your Matcha Protein Shake

The total time you’ll need to make this shake is around 5-10 minutes.

Also, I’m going to share with you two different strategies you can use to make your matcha protein shakes.

one method will be using a traditional protein powder to make your matcha shake.

The second optional method will be using a pre-made protein shake. This is great for those who want a convenient and one-the-go option.

Black Shaker Bottle

Using Vanilla Protein Powder

This first method is going to be using traditional protein powders.

To make your matcha shake, you are going to want to use a blender bottle. (also called a shaker bottle)

In that shaker bottle. You are going to add 1 cup of regular milk, 1-3 tablespoons of good-quality matcha powder, and 1 scoop of your vanilla protein powder. Then shake everything up for 30 seconds and enjoy!

you can add ice to a glass cup and pour your matcha protein shake in there to enjoy it cold.

This is a great way to start off your day!

Fairlife Core Power Elite Vanilla Protein Shake

The Easy To Make Green Tea Protein Shake Hack

This is a simple method of making my matcha protein shake.

In this matcha shake recipe, you are going to be using a pre-made vanilla protein shake.

My favorite kind to use is the vanilla core power shake.

And all you are going to do is add your green tea powder to the pre-made shake. Then just make sure you mix it well for 30 seconds, and boom!

You have a green tea protein shake ready to take with you on the go or enjoy right then and there.

Other Things You Can Try Adding

Here are a few tips on if you want to spice up this recipe with other add-ins.

Honey And Honey Dipper

Honey

Personally, I think the sweetness is already perfect, especially when you are using vanilla protein powder since it tends to have some sweetness to it already.

But if you added too much green matcha powder or your shake is just too bitter for your liking. Then you can sweeten it up with honey or any other sweeteners you like

Fruit Frozen In Ice Cube

Fruits And Veggies

Another thing people like to do is to add fruits and veggies to their protein shakes. This is something you can experiment with and try out. This is a great way to get in some serving of vegetables (like baby spinach) if you find a combination that works well for you.

I personally like to keep it simple but don’t let that stop you from getting creative and trying new things out.

Flax Seeds

Flax seeds is a popular ingredient that plenty of fitness enthusiast likes to add to their shakes. This is another ingredient you can play with that has many health benefits. Loaded with lots of fiber that can help with digestion and healthy fats like omega 3’s.

These are just a few examples of what you can add to your drink. I know some people add things like fresh spinach, coconut oil, bananas, apple juice, etc.

And that’s what’s great about this recipe. You can make it as simple or as complicated as you like.

Matcha Shake Drink

Benefits Of The Matcha Protein Shake

Having a match protein shake is a great way to start your day. Especially if you love matcha like I do.

You get the benefit of protein powder, which can help you build, recover, and retain lean muscle mass. This is really important if you go to the gym or exercise a lot.

And you get the benefit of green tea matcha powder. You’ll have a clean boost of energy and focus from the caffeine and get a dose of antioxidants to help your body fight off those free radicals; some even say green tea has weight loss benefits and, not to mention, it just tastes great!

Can You Put Matcha In Your Protein Shake

I’ve already written a post on the question: can you put matcha in your protein shake?

You can learn more about matcha and protein powder in the post I’ve linked above.

But as you should already know by now. Yes, you can absolutely add matcha to any protein powder of your choice.

It doesn’t just have to be vanilla protein, but you can add matcha to whatever flavor powder you think will taste good together.

My personal favorite is vanilla because I believe it’s the flavor that allows matcha to shine through the most and lets you actually enjoy the flavor of the matcha powder.

Final Thoughts On My Vanilla Matcha Protein Shake Recipe

I hope you go out and actually give my matcha protein shake a try!

Before I end this post. I want you to remember…

The 3 important ingredients that will really affect the taste of your shake are the matcha powder you use, protein powder, and milk.

Not all protein is created equal. Different brands and companies can make the same flavor, but each has its own distinct flavor. So be sure to use a brand that you like.

And not just that, but the milk you use will also impact the taste of your shake. Just switching from regular dairy milk to almond milk can have a big change in the flavor.

So even though this recipe is a simple 3 ingredients, each individual ingredient can really change the end product.

Feel free to use my recipe as a starting point. You can play around with different amounts of matcha in order to give you the best-tasting shake for you and your taste buds.

And don’t forget about my 2 ingredient matcha protein shake hack. This is great if you want a simpler solution that’s perfect on the go!
